Our Background
The Health and Rehabilitation Program for Afghanistan (HRPA) was established in 2002 and officially registered in 2004 with a mission to empower women and support vulnerable communities in Afghanistan. Over the years, HRPA has focused on delivering transformative programs that address critical needs, including literacy and education, vocational training, and rehabilitation services. Additionally, HRPA provided safe shelters for children under 13 and for women who had experienced violence, fostering hope and rebuilding lives.
Supported by various international donors, HRPA successfully reached over 12,000 individuals, with women being the primary beneficiaries of these programs. HRPA’s projects were primarily implemented in Herat, Nimroz, and Badghis provinces, where the organization worked tirelessly to uplift communities, address systemic inequalities, and create lasting social and economic impacts.
Building upon this legacy, GROW (Growth and Rehabilitation Opportunities for Women) has been established in Canada to continue the mission of HRPA. While rooted in the principles of women’s empowerment and social support that guided HRPA, GROW now focuses on adapting these values to meet the needs of women across Canada.
GROW aims to create opportunities for women by collaborating with government agencies, international organizations, and community partners. Its programs are designed to provide economic empowerment, skill-building initiatives, and rehabilitation support, ensuring that women have access to resources that enable independence and success. By carrying forward the vision and values of HRPA, GROW seeks to build resilient communities and foster hope and empowerment for women in Canada and beyond.
